Balurghat B.Ed. College, West Bengal
A team of dignified persons, sons of the soil and founding leaders of the college, who are educationists and efficient educational administrators with wide knowledge and experience about the existing situation of three levels of education in the country, more especially about quality teacher education and the quality of education. They had dreamed of a college of teacher education at Dakshin Dinajpur district, which they, with active support from Balurghat Educational Promotion and Welfare Trust and a long list of local educationists, leaders and social reformers, rendered into a reality in 2004. The college has already achieved a commendable position and status in India as one of the teacher education institutions of excellence.
The College is a non-profiting, unaided, self-financed institution of teacher education and training. It is managed and maintained by a welfare Trust with the denomination of Balurghat Educational Promotion and welfare Trust. The College was established on July 7, 2004 and duty recognized by National Council for Teacher Education, Government of India and approved by Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal. It was first affiliated to the University of North Bengal. The college was then brought under the affiliating jurisdiction of the University of Gour Banga, Malda in April, 2009. It was granted permanent affiliation to this university. The college has now been placed under the affiliation of The West Bengal University of Teachers’ Training, Education Planning and Administration presently renamed……..Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Teacher Education University,25/2 & 25/3, Ballygunj Circular Road, Kolkata 700019 with effect from February 01, 2017. The college is now included in the status list under section 2(f) & 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), India since 2009.
Radhanath Institute of Advanced Studies in Education
The Institute is located on the bank of the river Kathajodi of the thousand year old silver city of Cuttack. It is surrounded by the institutions like the High Court of Odisha, Board of Revenue , State Administrative Tribunal, Collectorate, State Bank of India, Main Branch, Ravenshaw Collegiate High School and the historic Swaraj Ashram which bears the footprint of Mahatma Gandhi. The area carries the memory of Ravenshaw College which had its beginning here and it still bears the name “Old College Lane”. The Institute has a sprawling campus of about five acres of land comprising of institute, residential and hostel complex. Its inside atmosphere is shady and green due to presence of many kinds of trees and orchards. The chirping of birds and the cool breeze of the river Kathajodi make its atmosphere pleasing and enjoyable. The remembrance of Kabibara Radhanath Roy, a great teacher and poet in whose name the institute is glorified adds to the serenity and sanctity of the institute’s atmosphere. Entrance into the institute complex creates an academic mood in every individual.
In conformity with the recommendation of the National Policy on Education (1986), Radhanath Training College, Cuttack was upgraded to the status of an Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) with effect from 1.9.1988 in pursuance of the sanction order of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. Consequent upon its up gradation it has been renamed as Radhanath Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Cuttack. Since then, this Institute has been functioning as a pace-setting centre in the field of Teacher Education. Its operational wavelength has been extended to teaching and research, in-service training for secondary school teachers for enrichment of content knowledge and pedagogic skills, publication and extension. The M.Phil. course in Education was introduced in the Institute in 1992 with an intake capacity of 12.
